Dancing through the decades Disco

Last night the SRC held their very first disco for the year. The theme was ‘Dancing through the decades’ and it was great to see so many gangsters, hippies, afro’s and even a special guest appearance from the ghost of Elvis Presley.

A massive thank you to DJ Mixalot who flew in from London to guest DJ for the night at such a discounted rate. A big thank you to the teachers who came and an even bigger thank you to all the students who came and danced the night away! It was our most successful SRC disco yet!

Have a look at our amazing photos.

Musica Viva 2016

Today, K-6 attended a live music show by MAKUKUHAN called Satu, dua, Indonesia!

“This is about as far away from the Western musical tradition as it gets. Makukuhan is a mini gamelan orchestra, which brings that distinctive and stirring Indonesian sound to life. Using traditional masked dance and instruments like the kendang, angklung and rebana, Satu, dua, Indonesia! is the perfect window into the exotic music of our northern neighbours. Three outstanding Indonesian musicians explore a number of styles from Bali and Java, with a focus on melodic percussion and rhythm. You don’t need to go all the way to Java for a slice of Indonesian culture; Makukuhan bring exotic music education to you”

All students were highly engaged and loved used their hands as musical instruments to make lots of amazing rhythms and sounds.

A massive thank you to the P&C for paying for all Tighes Hill students to experience this excellent show and to Mrs Bowman for the photos.

Year 5 Sports Gala Day.

Year 5 students attended a sports gala day on Wednesday at Callaghan College Waratah Technology Campus.

Students got the opportunity to meet other year 5 students from other schools and participated in a variety of activities including crossfit, tennis and basketball.

We had lots of aching bodies from Crossfit the next day!

A big thanks to Ms Armstrong and Mrs Bowman for organising and attending this day!

Mrs Elley and I are very proud of the girls and how hard they have been working.

Well done Sapphires. <3

Mother’s Day Craft

Today 5/6D made a gift for their mums using different coloured sand and recycled glass jars.

We used a funnel made out of paper to tip the coloured sand into our jars and made layers using the different colours. Some students then used skewers to make rivets in their sand layers to give the effect of running colour.

We hope that everyone has a beautiful Mothers day with whoever you celebrate it  with!
